Steve Earle<\/strong> will release his new album, The Low Highway<\/em>, on April 16. The 12-track album is the follow up to 2011\u2019s GRAMMY-nominated album I\u2019ll Never Get Out Of This World Alive<\/em> and is the first billed as \u2018Steve Earle & The Dukes (And Duchesses).\u2019 It features his live band, The Dukes, and is Steve\u2019s 15th<\/sup> studio album since his 1986 debut project, Guitar Town.<\/em><\/p>\n

The Low Highway opens with the title track and closes with the reflective \u201cRemember Me.\u201d The project is Steve\u2019s \u2018road record\u2019 as he explains in the album liner notes.<\/span><\/p>\n

“I’ve been on every interstate highway in the lower forty-eight states by now and I never get tired of the view,\u201d he writes. \u201cI’ve seen a pretty good chunk of the world and my well-worn passport is one of my most prized possessions, but for me, there’s still nothing like the first night of a North American tour; everybody, band and crew, crowded up in the front lounge, eating Nashville hot chicken and Betty Herbert’s homemade pimento cheese, swapping the same tired old war stories half shouted over the rattle and hum of the highway. And I’m always the last one to holler good night to Charlie Quick, the driver, and climb in my bunk because to me it feels like Christmas Eve long ago when I still believed in Santa Claus. God I love this.”<\/p>\n

The Low Highway<\/em> features \u201cLove\u2019s Gonna Blow My Way,\u201d and \u201cAfter Mardi Grais,\u201d both co-written by Steve and Lucia Micarelli,<\/strong> his co-star in the original HBO Series Treme<\/em>. The songs were written specifically for the series and a third song, \u201cThat All You Got?\u201d was performed by Lucia\u2019s character on Treme<\/em> and all three appear in recorded form for the first time.<\/p>\n

Additionally, on February 19, Steve will release a limited edition 7-inch of the album tracks \u201cBurnin\u2019 It Down\u201d and \u201cThat All You Got?\u201d in support of Independent Music Stores. \u00a0The record is available on red vinyl and is a limited edition pressing of 1,000.\u00a0 Each cover has been hand-signed by Steve and is hand-numbered.<\/p>\n

Steve has also signed a two-book deal with Twelve, an imprint of Grand Central Publishing\/Hachette Book Group. The first book will be a memoir, a book Steve initially swore he would never write, and include three parts. The first part will focus on meeting Townes Van Zandt<\/strong> and their complicated friendship, the second on reaching rock bottom in Nashville and his time in prison and the third on his recovery and return to music. The second book will be a novel.<\/p>\n
